Outpatient Surgery Center Tour
The Welcome Area
It is understandable that you will be a little anxious on the day of your surgery! The Commonwealth Surgical Staff wants to make you feel at ease throughout your surgical experience.
Arrive at the Surgical Suite at your designated time. Bring all of your completed Surgical Suite paperwork. It is important to arrive at your designated time so that you are given enough time for completion of any additional paperwork that may be necessary, time for meeting with the anesthesia staff, nursing staff and your surgeon. It is also important that you have enough time for patient education and preparation for your procedure.
It is very important to report to the nurse any unusual or illness symptoms you may be experiencing. Remind the nursing staff of any special needs such as bladder or bowel control issues or any use of assistive devices such as hearing aides or dentures.
You will need to have an escort come with you on the day of your surgery for the trip home and to stay with you for at least the first (24) hours.
Remember not to eat or drink as per your pre-operative instructions. If you have been instructed to take medication on the day of your surgery, take them with a small sip of water. You may brush your teeth on the day of your procedure. Spit out any rinse water.
You will be provided a locker once you arrive at the Surgical Suite....but....all patients are encouraged to leave valuables at home!
Your companion(s) will have the option of waiting in the reception area for you or leaving the center while you are having your surgery. Should they decide to leave the center, a beeper will be provided to them during your surgery.
