D. Andrew Parker, MD


Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Andrew Parker was drawn to orthopaedics out of a desire to help people of all ages regain lost function and return to the activities or sports they enjoy. After earning a BS in Biology and Chemistry from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Parker returned to his hometown and graduated magna cum laude from medical school at the University of Louisville. He then moved to Chicago where he completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Northwestern University. Dr. Parker concluded his formal medical education by completing a fellowship in sports medicine at the Baylor Sports Medicine Institute in Houston, Texas.

Fascinated by the technical aspects of his specialty, Dr. Parker likes the challenges of the ever-changing field of orthopaedics. He especially enjoys the doctor-patient relationships that he has developed because he feels most orthopaedic patients are “motivated and proactive about their recovery.” Dr. Parker’s special interest areas include cartilage restoration surgery, adolescent and adult sports medicine, primary and revision arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery, and shoulder joint replacement.

As an active and respected participant in many professional medical organizations, Dr. Parker has delivered numerous presentations and educational seminars at orthopaedic conferences around the country. He also has significant experience in the area of sports medicine having cared for athletes from the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Northwestern University. Additionally, he served as assistant team physician for the Houston Texans, Houston Astros, and the University of Houston while doing his fellowship. Today, he continues to care for athletes in his role as team physician for Park View High School in Sterling, Virginia.

As a former collegiate athlete, Dr. Parker maintains a personal interest in athletics and physical fitness and especially enjoys basketball, racquetball, downhill skiing, cinema, and traveling.
