Mark R. McMahon, MD

With a love for problem-solving, Dr. Mark McMahon was drawn to the field of orthopaedics because of its variety and mechanical nature. After graduating with a BA from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Dr. McMahon went on to earn his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. Following a general surgery residency at the University of Oregon, he completed a year of orthopaedic research at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center and then finished his orthopaedic training at the University of Southern California.

Before moving to Northern Virginia, Dr. McMahon spent three years in private practice in the Los Angeles area. There, he served as an instructor of adult reconstructive surgery at the University of Southern California and contributed to a textbook chapter on the topic of surgical treatment of the arthritic knee. Today, Dr. McMahon’s orthopaedic interests include sports medicine, hip arthroscopy, and arthritis surgery of the hip and knee.

Active in hospital leadership, Dr. McMahon has served both as Secretary/Treasurer of the Medical Executive Committee at Inova Alexandria Hospital and as Chief of Orthopaedics. He is also active in the community and serves as team physician for Lake Braddock High School.

Dr. McMahon is married to Dr. Nancy McMahon, and they have two grown children. In order to maintain a health-conscious lifestyle, Dr. McMahon enjoys finding time for skiing, golf, and hiking.
