Mark P. Madden, MD

Born in Alexandria, Virginia, and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dr. Mark Madden has had a lifelong interest in sports that culminated with his membership on the 1977 National Championship Notre Dame Football Team. Earning the University’s varsity athletic insignia as a monogram winner, Dr. Madden received a BS from the University of Notre Dame before going on to complete his medical degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Combining his love for sports with his ability to put things back together, Dr. Madden was drawn to orthopaedics and completed his training in orthopaedic surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center where he served as chief resident.

Dr. Madden was in private practice for five years before helping establish Commonwealth Orthopaedics in 1993. Today, he enjoys working with great partners and using his orthopaedic skills to return people to activities they enjoy. Dr. Madden’s particular interests include minimal incision joint replacement of the hip and knee, ACL, cruciate ligament and arthroscopic ligament reconstruction, sports medicine, trauma surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.

As former chair of the Reston Hospital Department of Orthopaedics, a member of the Operating Room Committee, chairman of the Reston Hospital Credentials Committee, a member of the Reston Hospital Executive Committee, and an instructor of residents for the Georgetown University Department of Orthopaedics, Dr. Madden stays active in medical leadership. He also participates on the Notre Dame Alumni Board and is involved in the community as a member of the Vienna Youth Lacrosse Board and as team physician for Herndon High School and Paul VI Catholic High School.

Dr. Madden and his wife have three children and a beloved blue tick hound. In their leisure time, the Madden’s enjoy traveling, sports, reading, and comedy.
