Dean R. Bennett, MD
Born in Santa Barbara, California, Dr. Dean Bennett’s early interests
in sports, physics, and fixing his parents’ cabin influenced him to
pursue a career in orthopaedic medicine. After graduating with both
a BA in Chemistry and a BS in Biology from the University of California in
Irvine, he earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He then remained in Pittsburgh to complete both
his general surgery and orthopaedic residency at Mercy Hospital and the University
of Pittsburgh, respectively. To add to his formal medical training, Dr. Bennett
completed an additional year-long orthopaedic surgery residency at the University
of Glasgow in Scotland. Upon his return to the States, he began his
orthopaedic career as staff physician for a ski clinic in Aspen, Colorado.
After moving to Virginia and working in private practice for five years, Dr. Bennett became a founding partner of Commonwealth Orthopaedics. Today, in addition to general orthopaedics, Dr. Bennett’s special interests include trauma, sports medicine, foot and ankle and reconstruction. His primary interests are with lower extremity and total joint replacements. He also performs unicondylar knee replacements and maquet osteotomy. As an orthopaedist, Dr. Bennett is most satisfied when he can treat patients’ functional disorders and send them on their way to a higher quality of life.
Dr. Bennett is a Fellow of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). He is also active in the community where he donates his time for the North County Health Clinic and has served as team physician for Centreville High School since 1990. He is also a coach for community youth soccer teams.
Dr. Bennett resides in Vienna and is the proud father of four children—two boys and two girls.
