Patient Testimonials - Courtney
McLean – Fractured Leg
Late one January evening, Courtney was preparing to take her dog out for
a quick walk. But as she was putting on her shoes at the top of a wooden
staircase just outside of her apartment, she tripped and fell down an entire
flight of stairs. As she lay in excruciating pain with a very visible
fracture, Courtney yelled for her neighbors to help. Soon, she was
taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
That evening Courtney was stabilized at the hospital. The next morning, though, she requested to be transferred to another hospital for treatment by a Commonwealth Orthopaedics physician.
Courtney explains, “A friend of mine had used a Commonwealth physician before, so I transferred to the hospital where he worked because I had heard such good things about him.”
Once there, under the recommendation of her physician, Courtney decided to proceed with surgery immediately to repair her shattered tibia and fibula. During surgery, three screws and a metal rod that runs from her knee to her ankle were placed in Courtney’s leg. After a short stay in the hospital, she was released with a walking boot and crutches.
Over the next several months, Courtney relied on her crutches to get around as she waited for her leg to heal. By early spring, though, she was able to begin exercising again. As a very active person with a love for the outdoors, Courtney was anxious to get back to her life.
She says of her status today, “I do the elliptical machine again now. I’m outside a lot. I like to hike. I even take my dog hiking for a couple of miles on the weekends.”
Courtney’s active lifestyle and her determination to get back to her life made way for a favorable recovery.
She sums up her experience saying, “I loved my doctor. I would recommend him to anyone. This was my first and hopefully only major injury, but if I ever have any other problems, I’ll definitely go back to my Commonwealth Orthopaedics physician.”
