*NOTE: Chart statistics referenced are from 2006.
Patient Visits
Over 125,000 patient visits were made to our practice for medical and surgical orthopaedic services. Sixty-six percent (66%) of the office visits were patients returning for orthopaedic care by one of our orthopaedic physicians.
Our eight physical therapy clinics scheduled nearly 75,000 appointments in 2006. The physical therapy clinics are located adjacent to the physician offices making the coordination of care between the physicians and therapists convenient and seamless for our patients.
Total Number of Procedures
Over 10,700 procedures were performed by our surgeons, with 50% of those being performed arthroscopically. Our surgeons operate at Inova’s Alexandria, Fairfax, Fair Oaks and Loudoun Hospitals; Reston Hospital Center; Virginia Hospital Center and our two Ambulatory Surgery Centers located in Herndon and Fairfax.
Arthroscopies
With over 5,000 arthroscopies performed, our physicians are experts, innovators and teachers in the field of arthroscopic surgery. We utilize the latest state-of-the-art procedures and equipment to keep all levels of athletes functioning at their best and we do our best to get them “back to their lives” quickly and safely.
Surgeries at Commonwealth Orthopaedics’ Ambulatory Surgery Centers
We opened our first Joint Commission accredited ambulatory surgery suite in 1999 in Herndon and added the Fairfax suite in 2001.
Fracture Care
Fracture care, both surgical and non-surgical, represents a large portion of the orthopaedic care we provide with over 5,800 fracture cases treated in 2006.
Pediatric Care
Care for these young patients includes medical and surgical orthopaedic care including strains and sprains, fracture care and treatment for scoliosis. In 2006, over 15,000 pediatric visits were made to Commonwealth physicians.
